Philadelphia Bee Co. is a family owned and operated beekeeping business that has been in operation since 2012. Don Shump, the founder and owner, first discovered his passion for bees while volunteering at a community garden in Queens Village where they made local honey for their members. 5 years later, he and his wife left their full time jobs and incorporated their burgeoning urban beekeeping business. Today, Philadelphia Bee Co. produces honey from within city limits, provides chemical free removals of bees and wasps, and offers educational programming for young and old.

Honey Recipes
Philadelphia Honey Burger
- ½ cup honey
- 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 8 hamburger buns, split and toasted
- OPTIONAL: Lettuce, tomato, pickle
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, cinnamon, paprika, garlic powder, and ground ginger. Add the beef, and mix well with clean hands. Divide the mixture into 8 patties.
Heat the grill until medium-hot, and grill the burgers until medium-rare, about 5 minutes each side. Let the burgers rest a few minutes before serving on buns, with lettuce if desired.
